Grasp the tick as close to the skin as possible and pull it out slowly and straight.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Please avoid twisting or squeezing the tick<\/strong>otherwise pathogens could enter the wound.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The puncture site should then be thoroughly disinfected<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>If the tick head or parts of the holding apparatus (legs) remain in the skin<\/strong>This is generally harmless. The body rejects this foreign body on its own.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>&nbsp;2. observe the puncture site<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Please observe the site of the tick bite carefully over the following days and weeks.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pay particular attention to:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>an increasing&nbsp;<strong>Redness<\/strong>especially ring-shaped (so-called&nbsp;<em>Wandering blush<\/em>)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Swelling, pain or itching<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Flu-like symptoms<\/strong>&nbsp;such as fever, headache or aching limbs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>3. when you should seek medical advice<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Please contact your pediatrician's office if:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The puncture site becomes infected<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>a ring-shaped reddening forms<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Your child feels generally unwell, complains of a headache or has a fever<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"399\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youkidoc.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/bild-zecken-1024x399.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-40589\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.youkidoc.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/bild-zecken-1024x399.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.youkidoc.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/bild-zecken-300x117.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.youkidoc.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/bild-zecken-768x300.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.youkidoc.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/bild-zecken-1536x599.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/www.youkidoc.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/bild-zecken-18x7.jpg 18w, https:\/\/www.youkidoc.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/bild-zecken-1320x515.jpg 1320w, https:\/\/www.youkidoc.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/bild-zecken.jpg 1923w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Important information on Lyme disease and TBE<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Lyme disease (Lyme borreliosis):<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Transmitted by bacteria (borrelia) found in some ticks.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A typical first sign is the&nbsp;<em>Wandering blush<\/em>&nbsp;- a ring-shaped reddening around the puncture site, often only after a few days.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Lyme disease can be treated with antibiotics.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>TBE (tick-borne encephalitis):<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Transmitted by a virus that is particularly common in certain regions (TBE risk areas).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The disease can begin like the flu and in rare cases can lead to meningitis.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It is not possible to treat the virus itself with medication - only the symptoms can be alleviated.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A\u00a0<strong>Vaccination<\/strong>\u00a0against TBE is possible and is recommended in risk areas (all of Switzerland with the exception of Ticino).
